Chelsea opened their WSL title defense with a 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Aggie Beever-Jones and Maika Hamano scored before a Niamh Charles own goal gave City late hope. It was Sonia Bompastor’s first competitive game in charge, while Sam Kerr returned to the bench after her long ACL layoff. City pushed hard past 100 minutes, but Chelsea held firm.
